Two post-doctoral positions are available at INRA-LBE, Narbonne, France (http://www4.montpellier.inra.fr/narbonne_eng) :

1-      "Coupling hydrogen production by dark fermentation and microbial electrolysis in a single anaerobic reactor (18 months)". This research is part of the 4-years DefiH12 project (2009-2013) funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR)

2-      "Bioelectrosynthesis for the refinery of residual waste (36 months)". Determining the cathode operating conditions for microbial electrosynthesis of valuable biomolecules. This research is part of the 5-years BIORARE (2011-2016) project funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR)

Both positions are open starting end of 2011 or early 2012.

The candidates will be based at the Laboratory of Environmental Biotechnology (LBE) of the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA).

Ranked number one of the agricultural institutes in Europe, INRA carries out mission-oriented research for high-quality and healthy foods, competitive and sustainable agriculture and a preserved and valorized environment.

LBE develops research on microbial bioprocesses for the treatment and valorization of effluents (mainly from food industry), organic waste (agricultural residues, household waste and sewage sludge) and more specific biomasses such as micro or macro-algae. The production of bioenergy (eg., methane biogas and bio-hydrogen by anaerobic ecosystems) from waste is the main field studied in the laboratory.

Research conducted at the LBE covers a large range of scientific disciplines: microbiology, microbial ecology, biological engineering, process engineering, modeling, process control, lifecycle analysis and technology transfer.

Candidates should have developed technical and scientific skills in at least one of the following fields: Anaerobic Digestion, Biochemical Engineering, Microbial Physiology and Ecology. Previous experience on BES will be appreciated.
