Hi, I am an undergraduate student and I want to build a single chamber MFC for my FYP. Can you please suggest how to construct a relatively simple air cathode? What are the materials and equipment needed? Thanks, FJ

Hi, I'm a student, very new in this field and I need some clarification. From the literature that I have read: (i) it states that single chambered MFC produces higher power density than a dual-chambered MFC. However, there are still lots of study/research conducted using a dual-chambered MFC. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each type of design? (ii) most of the studies used PEM Nafion 117 type of membrane. Why is it so? Thank you.

Hi,
I have read that, a bacteria in its natural conditions, when it transfer electrons to the external acceptors, energy is produced in the form of ATP, due to the inward flow of protons. But, in a BES, when the anode accept the electons from the bacteria:
- does any proton flow occur into the bacterial cell?
- Is ATP produced? if yes, how are they produced?

I am a student of biotechnology doing my final year project on microbial fuel cells.
Can I use Agar Salt Bridge (Sodium nitrate, agar, water (15g:3g:150mL)) instead of proton exchange membrane?
