Does the size of the electrode makes a difference? PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 28 October 2011

Hi, I am building a MFC for a science fair project. I found some instructions online that I will use to design my MFC. However if I follow the exact instructions, it is going to get very expensive. I would experiment with it more if I could, but I am using carbon cloth and like I said, it is expensive. I was just wondering if anyone knew if the size of the electrode makes a significant difference in the results. Thanks!

It is important that the proportion electrode surface/anode compartment volume to be as high as possible. In your case you can decrease the anode compartment dimensions keeping the electrode size.

Yes size of electrode affects on power density obtained from MFC and it make significant difference on MFC performance.
