microbial fuel cells using food waste
Hello, I am a rising sophomore attending Mount Hebron High School in Ellicott City, Maryland. Our class has been brainstorming possible science fair topics to be completed by this December. For my project, I have decided to conduct an experiment on generating electricity from microbial fuel cells using food waste obtained in the house. I need your help in constructing and evaluating a suitable fuel cell, cultivating bacteria, and understanding aspects such as the oxidation-reduction reactions and the rehydrating bacteria. More interestingly, the county which I live in, Howard County has initiated a pilot program just this month, to collect food scraps to be used as compost. I am hoping that with my project, our county would be able to use the gathered food scraps as a microbial fuel cell instead, to produce power. However, a mentor is essential to complete this experiment. I would really appreciate it if you would be a mentor for me. I am planning to do my project at Maryland, but could I guide me? Thank YouHavisha GarimellaHome: 410-418-9644Cell: 443-676-2901

This is cool
This is a really cool idea. I myself, am an 8th Grader and am going to do a project on Microbial Fuel Cells. I am going to make energy out of wastewater of a river. This website helped me really understand the project alot better..... Thanx!!
